Choreographer Yloy Ybarra in 1999. Believing that performance is a powerful tool for learning, Ybarra created BFM as a means to provide students the opportunity to discover and appreciate the performing arts while developing cultural awareness of Mexico's vast folkloric history.

Fiesta Mexicana celebrates the beauty of Mexico's universe in motion. They present a rich and diverse repertory, from the pre-Columbian civilizations which grew with the Hispanic influences of the viceroyal era through the revolutionary years. Working with Young Audiences New York, Arts Connection, and Community Works, BFM has brought experiences with artists and appreciation of Mexico's folklore, dance, music and regional costume to thousands of students. BFM quickly became an audience favorite. They have performed at the Queens Museum, the National Arts Club (Tribute to Octavio Paz), the American Museum of Natural History, and the Metropolitan Museum of New York.

Ballet Fiesta Mexicana made it's formal theatrical debut in 2000 at The Thalia Theatre in Sunnyside, NY. Ballet Fiesta Mexicana serves the American public as a dynamic ambassador of Mexican culture.
